We measure before we recommend.
At the Sleep Technology Centre, a sleep consultant measures how your body rests on a mattress before recommending one. A session takes about 45 minutes and is free.
Why the centre exists.
Comfort World's work began in 1993, making healthcare and orthopaedic mattresses for export to Japan. That work taught us that a mattress has to respond to the person lying on it.
When Comfort World was formed in 2003, people in Sri Lanka had many mattresses to choose from and very little reliable guidance on which one suited their body. The Sleep Technology Centre was set up to close that gap, so that each person can understand what their own body needs before they buy.
“Our success is not measured by how many mattresses we sell. It is measured by whether the customer leaves with the right one.”
What the mattress has to hold.
Lying down, your body does not rest evenly.
-
Too firm, and the surface pushes back.
It does not give, so the shoulders and hips take the pressure.
-
Too soft, and it lets you sink.
The hips drop, and the lower back and neck are left to hold the line.
-
Matched to you, it does both.
It gives where you are heaviest and supports the rest, so the strain eases.

-
Neck
The pillow, more than the mattress, decides whether the neck stays in line with the rest of the spine.
-
Shoulders
On your side, the shoulder is one of the two widest points of the body and takes much of your weight.
-
Lower back
The lower spine curves inward. A surface that leaves it unsupported asks the muscles to hold it all night.
-
Hips
The heaviest part of the body. Too soft a surface lets them sink; too firm and pressure builds.
Your session, step by step.
-
Step 1
Tell us how you sleep
The session starts with a conversation. Your consultant asks about the position you sleep in, the mattress you use now, what you find comfortable, and anywhere you feel discomfort.
-
Step 2
Sensor pad reading
You lie down on a sensor pad in the position you normally sleep in. While you rest, the pad records how your body applies pressure to the surface beneath it.
-
Step 3
Body-pressure mapping
The reading appears on screen as a pressure map. Your consultant goes through it with you and explains what it shows about how you rest.
-
Step 4
Compare and decide
You then try the mattresses shortlisted for you, side by side. You leave with a recommendation, whether or not you buy anything that day.

The work behind it.
The centre grew out of more than thirty years of making and studying sleep surfaces.
-
1993
Manufacturing of specialised healthcare and orthopaedic mattresses begins, for export to Japan.
-
2003
Comfort World is formed to bring that knowledge to Sri Lanka.
-
2007
A sleep-surface study, carried out with universities and specialists, examines how people interact with different sleep surfaces.
-
Then
The study leads to the Sleep Technology Centre, set up to teach consumers and medical professionals about the body, sleep and the surface beneath it.
-
Later
The centre's education programme receives US copyright protection.
-
Since
Continued research and development contributes to patented solutions.
